Great doctor, I am super satisfied with my cosmetic surgical results, I would recommend to anyone.

The doctor performed a non invasive manhattan lift on me and i love it. everyone asks me if i went on vacation or if i lost weight! he was very professional and his assistant is the best. i highly recommend dr. dagan to everyone seeking cosmetic help.

Dr Dagan was my third nose job surgeon. Out of all three I was most pleased and satisfied with Dr. Dagan’s patience, knowledge and work. He takes him time to make sure I understood what can be done realistically and what can not. He is far from greedy like some other plastic surgeons. His staff is also very caring and you never have to wait to see him. Dr. Dagan thanks for the nice nose!

I had nasolabial folds and acne scarring. Previous fillers had left my right side less full than my left. I had 4 syringes, more in the right side than left. I am very happy with the results. I noticed immediate improvement, with more over the time. I have not had any adverse reactions. It’s been 2 years and I don’t need a touch up. It hurt more than other fillers but was worth it. I noticed many of the unhappy users had injections around the eyes, which isn’t suggested for Artefill. The skin is too thin. Side effects are possible and likely.

Dr. Dagan is very honest about the services that are needed. He likes to keep you looking natural, but beautiful.

Loved it! Really clear breakdown of expectations and everyone is super friendly.

What is Botox®?

Botox® is a biological substance developed from purified proteins made from botulism toxin type A. Despite its connection to the food poisoning bacteria of the same name, Botox® is one of the safest and longest-standing treatments for the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles caused by aging and bodily wear and tear. The treatment, which was originally developed by ophthalmologists to control facial muscle spasms, has become one of the most-requested cosmetic treatments in the world and has been performed on over 11 million patients since its FDA approval in 2002. Each year, Americans spend over one million dollars on Botox® facial filler injections, making it one of the most common non-surgical cosmetic procedures today.

Botox® works by inhibiting muscle movement in targeted areas when administered in very small doses to specific areas of the face and neck. When injected, the drug blocks nerve impulses that lead to muscle contractions, temporarily paralyzing the muscle movements that lead to wrinkle damage. Each Botox® injection lasts approximately 3 to 4 months, creating smoother skin surfaces that radiate with a more refreshed, youthful appearance.

The Botox® in New York Procedure

Botox® treatments are one of the most common outpatient office cosmetic surgery procedures in NYC. During Botox® treatments at Dagan MD, patients are asked to contract the muscles in the desired target area so that Dr. Tal Dagan can determine the optimum injection site. Topical anesthetics are used in office to numb the injection sites prior to treatment. Botox® is then applied with a fine needle (similar to an acupuncture needle) in order to block nerve impulses and freeze muscle movement. Surprisingly, Botox® injections are nearly painless and can be administered in approximately 10-30 minutes, depending on the amount injected and the number of desired target areas for treatment.

Botox® injections are one of the simplest cosmetic procedures on the market, requiring no downtime for recovery. Patients can expect to see full results of injections within 2 to 3 days following injection and can expect results to last up to six months before repeat treatment is required.

Where is Botox® Most Commonly Applied?

Botox® can be applied anywhere on the face and neck that wrinkles and fine lines have developed due to aging. It is typically applied to areas such as:

  • Vertical creases between the eyebrows
  • Horizontal creases on the forehead
  • Crow’s feet at the sides of the eyes
  • Frown lines along the sides of the mouth
  • Thick horizontal creases on the neck, including tech necklines

While Dagan MD performs cosmetic injections, Botox® can also less commonly be used to treat other conditions, including excessive sweating, neck spasms, lazy eyes, and chronic migraines. It is not recommended to treat wrinkles and fine lines caused by sun damage or excessive scarring.

Botox® Injections in NYC Side Effects

Side effects of Botox® are usually minimal, making it one of the safer cosmetic treatments on the market for signs of aging. Contrary to rumors, Botox® cannot cause botulism, as it is derived using the same FDA-approved methods as antibiotics, collagen, and other natural and organic medical substances. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons considers Botox® to be a safe, effective treatment for dynamic wrinkles. At Dagan MD, you can rest assured that your Botox® injections will be administered in a fully sterile, state-of-the-art medical facility, avoiding any risk for infection during injections.

The most common side effect of Botox® injections is slight bruising at the injection site, which typically heals within a week or two following injections. Following Botox® treatments, patients should avoid rubbing at the injection sites, as this can cause migration of toxins to other areas of the face and result in temporary muscle weakness. Other common side effects include:

  • Headache or flu-like symptoms, including nausea and gallbladder trouble
  • Facial drooping or mild facial paralysis
  • Hives, itching, or rash
  • Bleeding, swelling, or redness
  • Dry eyes or excessive tearing

In rare cases, botulinum toxin can spread to other areas of the body. Call Dr. Tal Dagan immediately if you notice any of these side effects after receiving injections:

  • Muscle weakness
  • Breathing difficulty
  • Vision loss
  • Loss of bladder control
  • Difficulty swallowing or speaking

Am I A Good Candidate for Botox®?

Botox® is FDA approved for the treatment of dynamic wrinkles, which are the type of wrinkles that appear on the skin when facial and neck muscles are contracted. Dynamic wrinkles differ from static wrinkles, which remain on the skin regardless of muscle contraction and facial expression. Unlike dynamic wrinkles, static wrinkles are caused by lost facial volume and loss of collagen due to aging. While Botox® cannot treat static wrinkles, it has been approved to markedly improve the appearance of dynamic wrinkles such as frown lines, crow’s feet, neck bands, and forehead creases.

Botox® works best on healthy patients between the ages of 18 and 65 who have few preexisting health conditions. It can treat moderate to severe facial and neck wrinkles in problem areas like the forehead, eyes, mouth, and neck. While Botox® does not take decades off the face and neck overnight, it can help you look and feel your best by targeting specific problem areas related to skin aging.

Those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or allergic to proteins in cow’s milk should not receive Botox® treatments because of the way botulinum toxin is derived. Botox® is also not recommended for individuals with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), myasthenia gravis, or other severe illnesses or infections.

Botox® vs. Fillers: What is Right For Me?

Botox® is primarily used to treat dynamic wrinkles caused by aging. It can freeze muscle movement for up to 6 months, creating a more youthful, polished appearance. By contrast, dermal fillers are substances directly injected underneath the skin to restore volume and fullness associated with collagen loss due to aging.

Common types of fillers include:

  • Calcium hydroxylapatite
  • Hyaluronic acid
  • Polyalkylimide
  • Polylactic acid
  • Polymethyl-methacrylate microspheres (PMMA)

Different types of fillers can serve different purposes, ranging from re-stimulating collagen production to replacing lost facial volume. When administered properly, fillers can plump thinning lips, fill in shallowing areas of the face and neck, soften the appearance of scars, or fill in static wrinkles.

The time they take to work, as well as how long they last, also vary. Some fillers last 6 months, while others last up to 2 years or longer.

If you’re looking to diminish the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, Botox® is generally the best choice due to the low cost and ease of treatment. Botox® works best on areas of the upper face, including forehead and eyebrow wrinkles and crow’s feet. On the other hand, fillers are often the best choice for patients looking for longer-lasting effects. Some fillers can last up to two years before repeat injection, while Botox® injections typically need to be reapplied every 3 to 6 months. If you’re looking to fill in lost volume on the lower part of the face, including static wrinkles around the mouth, lips, or cheeks, fillers might be your best choice.

Botox® FAQs

Where to get Botox® in NYC?

When you make an appointment for Botox® treatments, you should make sure you’re only turning to licensed medical professionals in NYC. Since Botox® is one of the most sought-after cosmetic treatments on the market, it can be performed in a variety of treatment settings, including non-medical environments. The risks of Botox® increase in non-medical settings due to factors like subpar injection skill and risks for needle contamination.

Dr. Tal Dagan is one of NYC’s most respected cosmetic surgeons and is fully licensed to perform a wide range of cosmetic procedures, including Botox® injections and dermal fillers. At Dagan MD, you can trust that your injection procedure will be completed with care in a safe, sterile environment. In as few as 30 minutes overall, you’ll be on your way to renewed confidence and a revitalized youthful appearance.

How long is the Botox® procedure?

Botox® injection is a very simple process that can be accomplished as part of a quick in-office procedure. It typically takes 5-10 minutes to inject Botox®, depending on the injection site and amount. In all, you can expect to be in and out of the Dagan MD offices quickly when you receive your Botox® injections.

Are Botox® injections painful?

Botox® injections are minimally painful and typically do not cause significant discomfort for patients. Needles used for Botox® injections are very small, comparable in size to acupuncture needles. While some patients with sensitive skin may experience minor discomfort during injections, lingering pain isn’t typical. If you experience significant lingering pain after Botox® injections, contact Dr. Tal Dagan for followup treatment.

When will I see results from Botox®?

The full results of Botox® injections typically show within several days after injection. For some patients, it may take up to a week for full results to show.

How long do Botox® injections last?

Botox® is a temporary procedure that requires continued injections for long-lasting results. The results of each Botox® injection typically last between 3 to 6 months, depending on age and facial health.

How much does Botox® cost in NYC?

Botox® treatments in NYC vary in price depending on the number of injection sites, but typically costs between $20 and $22 per unit. When you consult with Dr. Tal Dagan about Botox® injections in NYC, you’ll receive a quote for the total cost of your treatment based on your desired outcomes. If it’s determined that you need 25 units to treat forehead creases, your total cost would be $550 if your per-unit rate was $22. Typically, Botox® injections in NYC cost between $250 and $500 per treatment area, but this can vary depending on individual outcomes.

Beware of physicians that charge less than the average rate for Botox® injections in NYC, as this discount may indicate subpar medical service. Keep in mind that you’ll typically need 2-4 treatments per year to maintain your refreshed appearance. Some providers may charge an additional base charge for in-office service, which typically ranges between $50 and $75 a treatment. Some providers may offer new-client discounts for first treatments as a way to introduce new patients to the Botox® regimen.

Contact Dagan MD today to find out about current pricing for Botox® units and treatments.

Does insurance cover Botox® in NYC?

Botox® injections for wrinkles aren’t typically covered by insurance as a cosmetic procedure. However, Botox® injections used to treat medical conditions like excessive sweating may be covered, depending on your insurance provider.
