Scar revision is considered when a mature scar remains widened, raised, depressed, tethered, poorly aligned with skin-tension lines or functionally restrictive. The indication is improvement—not erasure—and the proposed technique should match the scar type. A young scar still remodeling may benefit from time, silicone, sun protection, injection or laser care before another incision is justified; an active keloid requires a recurrence-aware plan.
The indication above defines the anatomical problem the procedure can address. It cannot promise symmetry, stop aging or correct concerns that arise from a different tissue layer.
